About

A physician,
not a brand.

I'm Dr. Essam Rashad — a hospitalist by trade, dual board-certified in Internal Medicine and Obesity Medicine, with years of bedside experience in some of the busiest hospitals in Texas.

I spend my weeks managing complex inpatients at JPS Health Network in Fort Worth — patients in heart failure, septic shock, diabetic crisis, post-surgical complications, and the kind of layered chronic disease that doesn't fit neatly into any one specialty. Between hospital shifts, I run Synergy Weight Loss & Primary Care in Lewisville, where I treat patients with obesity, metabolic syndrome, and the cardiometabolic conditions that follow.

This consultation practice exists because of what I see every day in both settings: patients who were rushed, dismissed, mismanaged, or simply never given the time to have their actual case understood. They come in clutching a folder of records, a diagnosis they aren't sure about, and a plan they don't trust. They want someone to sit down, look at the whole picture, and tell them what they would actually do.

That's what I offer here. Independent of my hospital and my clinic. No insurance, no agenda, no quota. I'm not selling you a treatment, a medication, or a procedure — I'm selling you my time, my training, and my honest opinion.

If your case is genuinely outside my expertise, I'll tell you so directly and refer you to a colleague who is better suited. If I think your current doctors are doing the right thing, I'll tell you that too — and you'll leave with the peace of mind that comes from a second pair of trained eyes confirming it. The integrity of this practice depends on that.

Frequently Asked

Common questions,
direct answers.

Do you accept insurance?
No. This is a private cash-pay consultation practice. I don't bill insurance for these services, which is precisely why I can offer the time and depth that insurance-based practices can't. Many patients submit superbills to their insurance for partial reimbursement, but I cannot guarantee coverage.
Are you taking over my care?
No. A consultation does not establish a primary-care relationship. Your treating physicians remain responsible for your ongoing medical care. My role is consultative — to provide you with an independent, well-considered opinion you can use to advocate for yourself within your existing care.
Can I see you if I don't live in Texas?
For consultations limited to record review and educational opinion, yes. For consultations involving specific medical advice or recommendations, state-by-state telemedicine regulations apply. We'll determine the right structure for your case during intake.
Will you talk to my other doctors?
If you'd like me to, and you authorize the release of information, yes. Many patients find a peer-to-peer call between their treating physician and me useful. This can be included in the Comprehensive Second Opinion or arranged separately.
What kinds of cases do you not consult on?
I will not consult outside my areas of competence. Pediatric cases, primary surgical decisions, deeply specialized oncology, and primary psychiatric care are outside my scope — and I'll tell you so directly during intake rather than waste your time and money. When applicable, I'll refer you to a colleague better suited to your case.
How quickly can I be seen?
Most consultations are scheduled within 5–10 business days. For urgent hospitalization advocacy, I aim to begin within 24 hours of engagement.

Your case deserves
more than eleven minutes.

Most patients tell me their first opinion was rushed. Your consultation with me will not be.
